Website Design & Branding for a New Orleans Business Association: WBIA

An association’s website has to sell an idea - membership - to the most skeptical audience there is: business owners. Here’s how association website design in New Orleans gave the Westbank Business & Industry Association a digital home worthy of its mission.

The Challenge

The Westbank Business & Industry Association has spent decades advocating for the companies of Jefferson Parish’s West Bank - hosting luncheons, connecting members, and giving the region’s industry a collective voice. But its digital presence told none of that story. The old site was a static brochure: no living events calendar, no member directory worth browsing, no reason for a prospective member to see the value of joining.

For a membership organization, that gap is existential. Every renewal season, members quietly ask themselves what they’re paying for. Every prospect who lands on a dated website concludes the association is dated too. And every event that gets promoted by email blast alone leaves attendance - and sponsor value - on the table.

The brief: rebrand the association with an identity that matches the professionalism of its member businesses, and rebuild the website into a working hub - events, membership, advocacy news, and a directory that gives members visible value for their dues.

Our Approach

An identity for a collective. Association branding is a balancing act: the mark has to feel established enough for bank presidents and approachable enough for family shop owners. We designed a clean, confident WBIA identity system - logo, palette, and typography - that reproduces beautifully on a website header, a luncheon banner, and a member decal on a storefront door.

A website built around the membership funnel. Every page answers one of three visitors: a member looking for the next event, a prospect weighing the value of joining, or a sponsor evaluating exposure. Events got a proper calendar with registration paths. Membership got a benefits page that makes the case in plain numbers and testimonials. The member directory became a browsable, categorized asset - a real benefit that gives every member a citation-quality listing and gives the site fresh, structured content search engines love.

Print that works the room. Luncheon programs, sponsorship one-pagers, and membership collateral carried the identity into the events where associations actually grow. The website and the handshake now make the same first impression.

An association sells belonging. The website’s job is to make a business owner feel the room before they ever walk into it.

The compounding effect matters most: every event page, directory listing, and advocacy post strengthens the association’s search presence - so when a West Bank business owner searches for a business organization to join, WBIA is the answer they find. DP1 continues to manage the site as the association’s long-term digital partner.

In the Client’s Words

DP1 gave our association a brand and a website our members are proud of. Events fill faster, prospects come to us already sold on the value of joining, and the directory alone justifies dues for a lot of our small members.

WBIA project - frequently asked questions

What makes association website design different from a business site?

An association site serves three audiences at once - members, prospects, and sponsors - and each needs a different path. The architecture centers on an events engine, a member directory, and a membership funnel rather than a single conversion goal. Done right, the website becomes a tangible member benefit instead of an online brochure.

Can DP1 DESIGN build a member directory that members actually use?

Yes. The WBIA directory is categorized, searchable, and structured so each listing works like a mini business citation - name, category, contact, link. That gives members real SEO value for their dues and gives the association fresh structured content that strengthens its own rankings.

Does DP1 handle ongoing updates for organizations without web staff?

That's our standard model. Most associations and nonprofits have no dedicated webmaster, so DP1 manages hosting, security, event postings, and content updates - typically turned around the same day. The organization focuses on its mission; we keep the digital home current.
