Website Design for a Salon: Color Bar

Color clients research harder than any other salon customer - they’re trusting you with months of grow-out. This is how salon website design built Color Bar Salon a presence that wins that research phase and books the chair.

The Challenge

A salon that leads with color lives and dies by trust. Balayage, corrective color, vivid work - these are big-ticket, high-anxiety purchases, researched extensively on phones before anyone books. Prospective clients compare portfolios on Instagram, read reviews twice, and study a salon’s website for evidence the colorists know what they’re doing.

Color Bar Salon had the talent and the results, but its digital presence didn’t hold up under that scrutiny. Instagram carried all the visual proof while the website - the place searchers actually land from Google - was thin: no service menu with real descriptions and starting prices, no colorist profiles, no gallery, no obvious booking path. The salon was losing exactly the clients it wanted most: the researchers, who are also the loyal, high-value ones.

DP1 had already proven the salon playbook with Salon Sanity - whose owner reports daily new-client calls from the web - and Color Bar wanted the same engine tuned for a color-first clientele.

Our Approach

Proof-first design. The site leads with the work: a transformation gallery structured by service (balayage, blondes, vivids, corrective), colorist profiles with their specialties, and reviews woven throughout. Color clients want evidence; the site is built as a portfolio that happens to take bookings.

A service menu that pre-qualifies. Color pricing is consultation-dependent, which scares salons into hiding it - and vagueness loses researchers. We wrote a service menu with honest descriptions, time expectations, and “starting at” anchors that respect the consultation while giving searchers enough to commit.

Local search for high-intent queries. On-page optimization targets the searches that fill color chairs - service-plus-city queries and “near me” lookups - backed by HairSalon schema, a rebuilt Google Business Profile with service listings, and a review pathway that keeps fresh proof flowing. Booking links and click-to-call sit one tap away on every screen, because the entire funnel happens on a phone.

A color client is about to spend four hours and real money in your chair. Your website’s job is to make that decision feel safe before they ever call.

Most telling: the consultations changed. New clients now arrive having already chosen their colorist and service from the website - shorter consults, better-matched expectations, higher-value tickets. That’s what a salon website is for.

In the Client’s Words

Our Instagram was always strong, but the website is what turned lookers into bookings. New clients come in already knowing which colorist they want and what to expect - DP1 built us a salon website that actually understands how color clients decide.

Color Bar Salon project - frequently asked questions

What should a salon website include to win color clients?

Visual proof organized by service, colorist profiles, an honest service menu with time and starting-price expectations, reviews, and a booking path that's one tap away everywhere. Color clients research hard; the site's job is making a four-hour, high-cost appointment feel safe.

Should salons put pricing on their websites?

For color, publish 'starting at' anchors with clear consultation language. Total silence on price loses researchers to competitors who give them something to work with; exact quotes stay in the consultation where they belong. It pre-qualifies clients and reduces sticker-shock no-shows.

How does this compare to DP1's Salon Sanity project?

Same engine, different tuning. Salon Sanity was a full rebrand plus website for a general salon; Color Bar focused the playbook on a color-first clientele - heavier on galleries, colorist profiles, and service-specific search terms. Both prove the pattern: salons win online when the website converts research into trust.
